Platelet Rich Fibrin

Platelet Rich Fibrin is an evolution of PRP that uses a similar solution but with more stem cells, white blood cells and fibrin from your blood.

The PRF solution is generated using a similar procedure as that of PRP.

The main difference is, we spin it slower and use a gel carrier to help keep it liquid. The result of this new process is more stem cells, more white blood cells and fibrin within the PRF solution.

The slow spin also retains some of the natural formation of the solution. The white blood cells and fibrin retain a scaffold-like structure that releases platelets over time rather than all at once.

PRP vs PRF—what’s the difference?

The difference between these treatments lies mainly in your blood which is collected prior to treatment. When having a PRP treatment your blood is spun in a centrifuge at high speed, totally separating the plasma layer whilst with PRF your blood is spun at a lower speed so some of the white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin continue to remain in the platelet layer. This slow spin means less cells are damaged therefore leaves a higher concentration of healing platelets. PRF is believed to contain more platelets as opposed to PRP. PRP is believed to be 2-5 times the platelets while PRF is believed to be 10 times more.

Another difference is the use of anticoagulants. Within PRP there is added anticoagulants to stop the blood clotting during injection. With PRF, no anticoagulants are added which allows for the creation of a spongy fibrin (natural volumiser). This volumiser causes the platelets to release their growth factors slowly as opposed to PRP which releases them quickly over a few hours. This slow release is believed to have longer-lasting results.

The last difference is how the treatments are applied. PRP is performed generally with microneedling while PRF is used as a natural volumiser in specific areas such as under eyes and or smile lines or deep wrinkles.
